Wow, what a month! I'm finally starting to recover from an intense Christmas, and now Jacen has a birthday on Saturday! Is it even good for a kid to be spoiled this much?
We spent a week and 2 days in Iowa for Christmas. In that time, we managed to cram in 5 Christmas parties (yes, 5), a birthday party for my brother, a bachelor party for my brother, my brother's wedding, and a friend's wedding. It was a lot of fun, and we managed to see everyone we wanted to.
There are few things that are stranger and more awesome than watching your little brother get married. It was a beautiful wedding, with a message that fit the couple perfectly. I'm so excited for them as they start their life together. And as a bonus, I got the sister I never had. I know, that's what everyone says after a wedding, but it really is true.
Now that all of that business is over, we're getting back to real life. Ethan starts class in a week. His last semester! Hooray! Anyone know where he can get a job? Speaking of jobs, I start a new nanny job in a week and a half. And this time I actually get to use my doula training. I will be caring for a sweet new baby girl during the night so that her parents can get some sleep. I never minded being up at night with my newborn, so hopefully this goes well, and I'm able to sneak in an hour of sleep for myself here and there. The best part of this job is that it allows me to be home with my baby during the day. I've missed a lot in the last few months working during the day, and I can't wait to be home the whole time Jacen is awake.
Jacen's birthday is this Saturday. My parents are coming down this weekend to help us celebrate, and Ethan's mom will come the next weekend. A first birthday is a hard one. I feel like it's a huge milestone in my life, so I want to make a big deal out of it. But at the same time, this is the birthday that Jacen won't remember. I'll probably just bake him a cake and buy a balloon to tie to his highchair. I have a pattern for different animal cakes that I'd love to try, but my cake decorating talent is not great at this point in my life. I think I'll have to make one anyway...but should I do the turtle or the elephant? Oh, the decisions you have to make as a mom. ;)
I guess that's all for now. Pics are of Jacen opening Christmas gifts, and us at Brandon and Sarah's wedding.
