Resolutions

I've never really made New Year's Resolutions, whether it was because I didn't have a vision or focus for my year, or because I was scared of failure.  Recently, I've realized that if I don't set goals, I'm not going to be able to make any real changes in my life. The focus becomes day to day, and I lose track of the big picture. So for this year, I've made 3 resolutions:

1) Lose Weight. Honest truth: This one scares me to death.  Weight and self-image have always been a guilt trap for me, and it doesn't take very much for me to give up on a weight loss or exercise plan because it's easier not to think about it than to deal with the guilt that comes with slipping up. But I think the time is right for me: we're done having kids (we think-do I dare put that in writing?), and I have a strong desire to set a good example for my daughter.  So, here's the game plan:
-Goal: lose 2-3 pants sizes. I have 30 lbs in my head as a loose goal, but in the past, nothing has tripped me up faster than watching those numbers.  My goal really is to gain energy and have a body that I feel good in again.
-Portion control. I have started reading packages and measuring all of my food.  I've also started paying better attention to the number of servings of different food groups I'm eating in a day.
-Make healthy snacks easily available.  Part of that has to do with what kinds of snacks we keep in the house, and part of that will be portioning things into snack bags of serving size portions, or having fruit and veggies washed, cut up, and ready to grab from the fridge.
-Less processed, more fresh, whole foods. Also, trying to read the packages and know what's really in what I buy.
-Exercise, 4-5 times a week cardio, in addition to the yoga that I'm already doing. Probably Zumba or my cardio yoga DVD.

2) Organize and Declutter. Starting with this program to get rid of 400+ items from your home in 40 Days. I especially need a better solution for the kids toys (which will include pairing down their toy collection), to put together the craft room in the extra bedroom upstairs, and do a major purge and reorganizing job on the basement storage room.

3)Less time on the computer, more time crafting and spending face time with my husband in the evenings.  This one's a little abstract yet, but I'd like to complete 2 craft projects a month, and have at least 1 game night or other face to face night per week.

I'll try to keep this blog updated with my progress, but if you don't hear from me for a week or two, please bug me and see how I'm doing! Encouragement is very welcome.:)

This is an inspirational post! I too, rarely make resolutions ("resolve" is such a scary word!). But I'm all about eating healthy and think you've got some great concrete plans for making it happen. One of the most dramatic game-changers I know of is cutting out white processed flour from our diet. When we married, we decided to try to live as gluten-free as we could, just for Nick's health. But I found as I avoided white flour, I felt worlds better myself -- more energy, clear headed, and dropped some pounds as a bonus. Now, there's not a lot of nutritional value in going completely gluten-free, but if you stick to just whole grains and don't rely on grains as a major portion of your meal, you should see an increase in energy. I've never been disciplined enough to read labels except for avoiding MSG.

Home work-out videos have been my go-to for exercise. I'm curious, what yoga poses are your favorite/give you best results?
